Andy Murray is undergoing sweat testing in a bid to discover why he has started cramping at the age of 35. And the Scot is ready to make immediate changes to his diet or preparation before the US Open starts on Monday.

The three-time Major champion has undergone two hip operations and suffered back, groin and abdominal injuries in the last year.

But the 2012 US Open winner has suffered from cramping during the US hardcourt events in Washington and Cincinnati.

And Murray admitted: “It is a bit frustrating right now because I am in a much better place physically in terms of my left groin and lower back but I’ve been having the cramping these last few weeks.

“I have had cramps before but not consistently so we are trying to understand exactly why it is happening because no one knows exactly why people get cramps.

“Some people do think it could be hydration-related, conditioning-related, stress-related or whether you have not eaten the right stuff. There could be a number of factors that go into it. It could be an underlying illness that is there and we’re just trying to get some answers to that.

“I haven’t done sweat testing for a number of years, so we’re doing that to see if anything has changed. I will do more testing and try to get to the bottom of it. Obvs I’m not going to get any fitter so if it was conditioning related I’m not going to get fitter in the next few days.

“If there’s something I can potentially change whether it’s eating or drinking or illness or something then there’s that possibility, that can obviously change pretty quickly.”
