The best story from Alabama football and NSD was Michael Parker. Parker declined 14 offers to wait a year to sign with the Tide … then his wait was over.

Similar to last season when Jarez Parks turned down college offers in favor of an Alabama football grayshirt, Michael Parker was prepared to wait. Parks was much higher rated and arguably made a bigger sacrifice. Parker was willing to go blueshirt, rejecting offers from Arkansas, Auburn and UCF.

Since attending an Alabama football camp last July, Michael Parker had been on the Tide’s wish list. Due to the lower athletic classification of Westminster Academy in Huntsville, Parker was not the typical Crimson Tide high-profile recruit. Fortunately for Michael, Nick Saban and his staff do not concern themselves with ‘Star’ rankings from rating services.

At 6-feet-6 and 236 pounds, Parker will need to add weight to his tall frame. Potentially, not playing until 2019 could still be worthwhile. A year of getting bigger and stronger with Scott Cochran will boost Parker’s potential.

He already has strong pass-catching skills. Parker pulled in over 70 passes in his last two high school seasons. Tide fans should not discount the potential for Michael Parker to become a productive receiver for the Crimson Tide.

From Zero Offers to an Alabama Football Scholarship

The Alabama football scholarship marked a year when Parker’s football fortune did a complete turnaround. As a high school junior, Michael had zero college football offers. Speaking to about the last several months, Michael said,

… all my other coaches and my parents said just keep pushing, keep working and good things will happen. I just trusted God that He would come through. I just worked hard and the school I’ve wanted to go to my whole life, Alabama, offered.

Michael Parker already had a connection to Alabama football. He has two older brothers who were Alabama football walk-ons.
